After months of working on your app , you might have started ground work to publish your app on google play. When your app is in internal testing or in the closed testing, users cannot see or search for your app on Play Store. You can follow the below steps, so that your testers can download and test your app.

Steps to Install App:

Its simple we just need to share android link right ? No, Even if testers have your link, they need to have permission to install your app. You need to follow below 2 steps to give permission to your testers:

App Links from Testers Section in Play Console

1) Select the Countries your Testers are Located

You need to select the countries in which you’re testers are located. Testers who are from the selected counties can only install your app. Just go to closed testing dashboard and select countries.

Once added, you need to save the changes and go to the next step.

2) Add Tester’s Email Id or Google Group

Basically google provides you with two ways to add testers to your closed testing release.

  1. Using Email Lists
  2. Using Google Groups

1. Using Email Lists

Here you will need to add the tester’s email id into the email list. Every time a tester wants to test your app, you need to manually add their email ids to the release. Its very time consuming and personally I don’t recommend it at all.

2. Using Google Groups

Here you will add a google group into your closed testing release and everyone who is a member of that google group can download your app from the link. You can create a google group here

After adding the email list or google group, save those changes and send the changes for review. After review you need to publish the changes, so that your testers can install your app.

If you find that this process confusing, you can see the below video to make things simple.

FAQ Section

If your testers are not able to install the app even after following the above steps, it might be due to below issues:

1) Check if you forgot to send changes for review and publish them.

2) In the Advanced Settings (Play Console => Test and Release => Setup) check if your app status is published or unpublished. It needs to be in published state.

3) Even after the doing above steps if you are not able to install the app, it means your closed testing release might be in review state. You can only install it after the review gets completed (it takes 3 –7 days).
